Subject: The Lucky Ones Live in Wisconsin
By John Gurda
As Edited by L.J. Lawver Sr.
The United States is the land of my birth
But the states aren't all equal, I'm sorry to say...
Wisconsin's the pick of the 50 today.
I like Virginia, Montana, Idaho and Maine.
But it's Wisconsin where my heart will remain.
With walleyes and fish fries and hot apple pie
And the Badger land motto: Eat Cheese or Die
We've got Forests and Prairies, Breweries and Dairies.
This state is always on the GO, Skiing on water and skiing on snow.
From Big Bend to Bayfield, From Madison to Fifield
The lucky ones live in Wisconsin.
Arizona's too dry, Utah's too high
In Kansas a forest is one lonesome tree.
Nevada's too empty, the deserts don't tempt me
In Alaska you'll freeze and in Georgia you'll fry.
California is crumbling; let's all wave goodbye.
Hawaii's so distant and New York is a Site to see
And too many lawyers run loose in DC.
The lucky ones live in Wisconsin.
We've got Silos and Church Steeples, And down-to-earth people.
From Lone Rock to Lena, All the way From Hayward to Neenah,
Holsteins a plenty and Guernsey's galore. And many a Mile of Great Lake Shore
Our Farmlands produce the Nation with Hay, and give Wildlife a place to Play
The lucky ones live in Wisconsin
Minnesota, Iowa & Michigan, are special friends.
Illinois on the other hand, I couldn't recommend.
It's flat as a pancake and spoiled to the core.
But too all visitors we open our door.
The lucky ones live in Wisconsin
The Flatlanders visit us year after year.
Clogging the highways and killing our deer.
And although we are Proud they Love our Beer
We hide all the children whenever they're here.
The lucky ones live in Wisconsin
We've got sweet corn, potatoes and bratwurst and more,
Our Annual Oktoberfest the natives and visitors all adore
Our Colby Cheese is really good, Our Cheddar beats the Rest
Our Milk is like Honey it makes our Butter's the very best.
The lucky ones live in Wisconsin
From Superior to Milwaukee,
From LaCrosse to Wausaukee,
Yes, from Adell to Algoma,
From Two Rivers to Tomah,
